Guidelines and Terms and Conditions for Intel Scholar Program 2008
Registration and Proposal Submission 1. Participation in the contest is strictly by invitation only. List of institutes invited for Intel Scholar Program 2008 is given in Annexure A. 2. The teams for the contest should be nominated by the institute faculty or head of department (HOD). Students are not allowed to enter the contest directly. 3. Any number of teams consisting of maximum of 2 students from the same institute can register for the Research Contest under the Intel Scholar Program 2008 and send their proposal. In exceptional cases for a team size of more than 2 students, a requisition letter from the Dean or HoD is mandatory. In all exceptional cases, the approval is at the discretion of the selection panel at Intel based on the requirement of the proposal. Any number of teams from Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology departments of the invited institutes can participate in the Intel Scholar Program 2008. Any individual student who is eligible to register for the contest can be a part of only 1 team registered for the Intel Scholar program 2008. 4. Proposals should be of research areas specified by Intel as mentioned in Annexure B. Proposals not falling under the research areas mentioned by Intel are most likely to be eliminated, which is at the sole discretion of Intel. 5. Online Registrations close by the 15th of April 2008. 6. Letter of Intent (Format in Annexure C) and Student registration form (Format in Annexure D) duly signed by the institute’s Dean or Principal or HoD should be sent along with the proposal by May 10, 2008 to: Ms. Leena M, Intel Scholar Program 2008, C/o Learning Links Foundation, No. 16, 80 Feet Road Kormangala, 4th Block, Bangalore 560 034 7. Each nominated team should also have an assigned faculty mentor from their respective institutes. 8. Students should ensure that they follow the process and timelines mentioned in the enclosed document 9. The Project synopsis in the prescribed format should be uploaded on the website along with the duly filled up online registration form on or before 10th May 2008. 10. The students and faculty will have to regularly check the website for any developments or information that will be updated from time to time. Assessment of Proposals and Mentoring From Intel 11. The evaluation of the proposal and subsequent mentoring of the short listed entries will be done by Intel Technologists only. 12. An incomplete entry in any respect will be rejected by team of evaluators. 13. For the selected teams and faculty, Intel will assign mentors (from Intel India) for improving the quality of the proposals for poster presentation as well as final project presentations. The mentoring largely happens through Phone calls and emails. 14. Mentoring will happen in two phases for selected proposals for poster presentation and short listed proposals for final presentations. 15. Neither Intel nor any of it’s subsidiaries or partners would be obliged to provide any Hardware/Software for development of proposal or project, at any stage of the contest. 16. Intel shall not bear any costs including travel and accommodation arrangements of the participating student/individual or the team during the mentoring process. Poster Presentation and Final Presentation 17. Only Student teams qualified for poster presentation or final presentation would be further contacted by Intel Scholar Program 2008 team members for exact dates and venue and other arrangements for the poster presentation or final presentation. 18. Stay arrangements and travel arrangements (Economy class Air Fare for distance above 500km or Second AC train fare for distance below 500km, based on feasibility and availability of tickets) will be provided by Intel both during the poster presentation and final presentations. 19. Intel will not take care of stay and travel arrangements of any other person (parents/friends/relatives/teachers etc) accompanying the selected students for final presentations or award ceremony. Rules and Regulations for Prizes 20. The decision of the judges and the steering committee shall be final and binding and no correspondence or communication shall be entertained in this regard. 21. The Prize money of Rs. 50,000/ team will be awarded to the top 3 teams under the ‘Category A’ and ‘Category B’ respectively. The payment will be made in the name of respective team members in the form of account payee cheques after equally dividing the prize money amongst the members of the winning team. The team members are required to submit acknowledgement in the prescribed format. 22. Intel sponsored M.Tech Scholarship up to Rs. 2,00,000 per year for a period of 2 years, only for finalists of ‘Category A’ willing to pursue M.Tech course in technology institutes preferred by Intel (Annexure I) will be made to the institute directly to cover the tuition fees only of the institution. 23. Cash grants are subject to tax deduction at source (TDS) as per the Government of India norms. 24. Student(s) selected for the prize under the ‘Category A’, who is/are willing to take up Intel sponsored M.Tech Scholarships need to become eligible for admission to the course based on their own merit in GATE or any other equivalent entrance exams, as may be the requirement of the specified institutes. The M.Tech course should be pursued in technology areas suggested by Intel for the Intel Scholar Program 2008 (Refer to Annexure B). 25. Students pursuing integrated or dual B.Tech and M.Tech course are not eligible for Intel sponsored M.Tech Scholarships. 26. Intel, in any circumstances, shall not help or support the selected students to seek admission or become eligible for admission for M.Tech course in the technology institutes prescribed by Intel (Refer Annexure I). Intel will only provide the scholarship to the maximum limit of Rs. 2,00,000/ per year for 2 years directly to the institute in the name of the selected students based on the necessary fulfilment of admission formalities by the student and on submission of necessary evidence of admission and continuation of the M.Tech course from the respective institute. 27. The Intel sponsored M.Tech Scholarship for selected student of ‘Category A’ will be applicable only if the selected student(s) obtains the admission in M.Tech courses in prescribed colleges by Intel (refer Annexure I) with in 2 years of the award date. If the M.Tech Scholarship remains un-utilized with in 2 years from the award date the financial assistance for M.Tech course will expire and in no way liable for extension of time. 28. Students selected for the opportunity to work as an intern with Intel India or opportunity to work as a Recent College Graduate (RCGs) as detailed in the prizes for ‘Category A’ and ‘Category B’ under the heading ‘Details of Intel Scholar Program 2008 in this document, shall be required to undergo the regular process and guidelines of Intel staffing procedures and policies applicable. Students who fail to successfully to complete the process of the Intel Staffing guidelines shall not be considered for the opportunity. In other words, the selected students under the prizes for ‘Category A’ and ‘Category B’ shall be given an opportunity to appear for an interview for Intel India’s recent college graduate (RCG’s) or internship programs. Intel reserves the right to reject students based on the guidelines set by the Intel staffing team for student hiring & internship from time to time. 29. Intel at its sole discretion, shall stop the funding to the student(s) of the M.Tech Scholarship, and such student shall be deemed disqualified for the M.Tech Scholarship program, in circumstances mentioned below: a. Student(s) already in receipt of any scholarships/fellowships/grants/awards either from government organizations, semi-government organizations or any private organisations or trusts or societies or associations or academic institutions or receiving any other source of funding for their M.Tech course will not be eligible for Intel sponsored M.Tech Scholarship b. If any scholarships/fellowships are being received by the participating students the same was not declared by the students at the time of registration to Intel Scholar program 2008 c. Any nullification of admission or course would nullify eligibility for the scholarship d. If the Student found guilty of any misconduct during the period of the course undertaken; e. If the student fails in any of the semester examinations conducted by the respective institutes and becomes disqualified to complete the M.Tech course by the institute. Disclaimer and Rights of Intel for Rules and Regulations of Intel Scholar Program 30. Concurrent submissions of the same research proposal to other conferences / journals are not acceptable. 31. Intel reserves the right to reject any registration form/ proposal without assigning any reason thereof. Any decision taken in this regard shall be final and binding and not subject to any dispute or challenge. 32. The participants hereby waive all rights and grant to Intel, a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual worldwide license to copy, modify and otherwise use and distribute their submission entry and, or, any element of the submission, in any and all media and in any publication whether online, offline or on the Internet. Intel shall also be free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how or techniques contained in such submissions or materials for any purpose. 33. Intel does not make any commitment, express or implied, to respond to any feedback, suggestion and, or, queries of the participants or furnish reasons for inclusion and, or, exclusion of any particular submission of the participant at any stage of the Intel Scholar Program 2008. 34. Intel may assign any or all of its rights under these terms and conditions to its affiliates without consent of the participants. 35. Participation in the contest shall be construed as an acceptance of the terms and conditions stipulated herein. Any breach or default by a participant of any of the terms and conditions herein shall result in immediate disqualification without notice. 36. The participant undertakes to indemnify and keep Intel harmless and indemnified against any loss, damage, claims, costs and expenses which may be incurred or suffered by Intel due to breach of any terms and conditions contained herein by the participant and, or, arising from the participation of the participant in the scheme. 37. In addition to these terms and conditions, Intel may impose other specific terms any time to deal with any unforeseen situation. Intel also reserves the absolute right to change the terms and conditions contained herein and, or, any other rules and regulations in respect of the scheme at any time without any notice, without assigning any reason and without any liability whatsoever. Participants are requested to refer to such other terms and conditions, if any, which may be displayed on-line or intimated separately as Intel considers fit. However, no obligation is cast on Intel to separately intimate each individual participant with regard to such additional terms and conditions. 38. Intel is not responsible for applications not received due to lost, failed, delayed or interrupted connections or miscommunications, or other electronic malfunctions, or due to lost, late, mutilated, illegible, incomplete, postage due or misdirected mailed applications. Intel is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry information, whether caused by persons entered at the website or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the program or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the applications. 39. Intel reserves the right to accept or reject the candidature of the selected Students for the opportunity to work as an intern with Intel India or opportunity to work as a recent college graduate as detailed in the prizes for category A and category B under the heading ‘Details of Intel Scholar Program 2008 in this document, as per the policies and guidelines of Intel. Any decision taken by Intel in this regard shall be conclusive, final, binding and not subject to any dispute or challenge. 40. All disputes shall be subject to Bangalore jurisdiction only.
